Highly regarded for her artistry and versatility, Barbara enjoys a broad career as a multi-genre vocalist, performing and recording the music of the Middle Ages through the present day.

Recent solo performances include Britten’s “The Company of Heaven”, Mozart's “Coronation Mass”, Pergolesi’s “Stabat Mater Dolorosa”, and Richard J Clark’s “Te Deum”, as well as concert appearances with Seven Times Salt, Hesperus, The Henry Purcell Society of Boston, and the Cambridge Midwinter Revels.

As an ensemble member, she has performed with the GRAMMY-winning ensemble The Crossing (Philadelphia, PA), Emmanuel Music (Boston, MA),  Ensemble Altera (Providence, RI), Meravelha Medieval Ensemble (Boston, MA), Schola Cantorum of Boston, Cappella Clausura (Boston. MA), and Nightingale Vocal Ensemble (Boston, MA). Barbara serves as the soprano cantor at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross.

An enthusiastic supporter of new music, she especially enjoys the opportunity to premiere and record new works. Highlights include premiering Kile Smith’s “The Consolation of Apollo” with The Crossing (2014), recording Gavin Bryars: The Fifth Century (2018 GRAMMY Award for Best Choral Performance - The Crossing), as well as appearing in the premier of The Mile-Long Opera (New York, NY), performing the world premiere of  Julia Wolfe’s “Fire in my mouth” with the NY Philharmonic and The Crossing (2019), and collaborating on the premiere of Kitty Brazelton’s “Recursion & Release” with Masary Studios (2023).
Barbara made her Carnegie Hall debut as the mezzo-soprano soloist in the premiere of Heidi Breyer’s “Amor Aeternus: A Requiem for the Common Man” in July 2022, and was honored to be featured in the premiere of director Angela Yam’s choral opera ADRIFT, with Nightingale Vocal Ensemble in March 2023.

In addition to performing, Barbara serves on the board of the Society for Historically Informed Performance (SoHIP) in Boston, helping to produce their annual summer concert series, and is the executive director of Meravelha Medieval Ensemble.

Barbara is a member of Beyond Artists, a coalition of artists that donates a percentage of their concert fee to organizations they care about. Barbara supports the ACLU, the Pope Memorial Humane Society, and 350.org.
